How Kindle to PDF handles your data.
1. Overview
Kindle to PDF is a Chrome extension that captures content from Kindle books on read.amazon.com and converts it into PDF files. Book content is processed by a remote PDF rendering API. This policy describes what data is processed, what is stored, and what is not.
2. What data is sent to our servers
When you trigger a PDF export, the text content of the selected pages from your Kindle book is sent over HTTPS to api.kindletopdf.com for server-side PDF rendering. The rendered PDF is returned directly to your browser for download. Book content is not retained on the server after the PDF has been generated and delivered.
3. What is stored locally in the browser
The extension stores the following data locally using the Chrome
storage API:
- Extension settings and preferences (selected export mode, last-used page range, etc.)
- A stable anonymous install ID used for quota enforcement and abuse prevention
No book content is stored by the extension after an export completes.
4. What is stored server-side
The PDF rendering backend retains limited data for security and quota enforcement:
- The anonymous install ID (to enforce per-install usage quotas)
- Hashed, IP-derived rate-limit and abuse-prevention records
- Token usage and security-event logs
These records are used solely for quota enforcement and abuse prevention. They do not include book content or personally identifiable information.
5. Permissions used
- activeTab — read the current Kindle page when you trigger an export
- tabs — identify and communicate with the active Kindle Cloud Reader tab
- scripting — inject the capture script into the Kindle reader page to extract content
- downloads — save the exported PDF file to your device
- storage — persist your export preferences and anonymous install ID locally
- webNavigation — identify the correct frame within the Kindle reader for content extraction
Host access is limited to
read.amazon.com and
api.kindletopdf.com.
6. Third-party services and tracking
Kindle to PDF does not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking tools. PDF rendering is handled exclusively by Kindle to PDF infrastructure. No book content or usage data is shared with third parties.
7. Amazon and Kindle
Kindle to PDF accesses content from read.amazon.com using your existing Amazon session in the browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit your Amazon account credentials. The extension reads only the visible page content you explicitly choose to export.
